Carroll County 911 Headquarters Nears Completion
From the May 26, 2026 e-Edition
HUNTINGDON (May 21) — The Carroll County Emergency Communications District (911 Board) Board of Directors moved forward with work on its new headquarters campus, approving a $7,500 bid to demolish the former 800-square-foot office building on Dillahunty Lane in Huntingdon.
The demolition contract was awarded to Barger Construction Company of Yuma, which is also the contractor for the new headquarters. The company’s $7,500 bid was substantially lower than those from other bidders, Shamrock of Paris and Reynolds Construction of Huntingdon. The contract requires Barger to raze the old building, remove all debris, eliminate the septic tank, dispose of remaining contents, and ensure all earthwork is consistent with the adjacent new construction.
The 5,422-square-foot new headquarters, which includes administrative space, a training area, and a backup dispatch center, is now on track for completion. Approved in May 2024, the building’s estimated cost is $2.875 million, which the CCECD had saved in reserve. CCECD Director Kristy Meggs noted that the district had been financially planning for the new building for over a decade. The facility was sketched by A2H designers and architects.
Meggs also shared that the new training area will be available to any government agency or nonprofit organization for hosting training sessions or meetings. This area, along with the backup dispatch center, is isolated from the main administrative space.
The backup dispatch center will provide multi-console dispatch capabilities for use if the county’s Emergency Operating Center (adjacent to the Sheriff’s Department) becomes inoperable. The training/community room has separate restrooms and entrances, allowing it to be used by groups other than 911.
Attending the Thursday meeting were: Director Kristy Meggs, administrative assistant Amanda Pate, board members Steve Price, Max Anderson, Willie Huffman, Joe Walker, Larry Elliott, and board chairlady Joyce Noles.
