Atwood Man Injured in Car, Train Accident

ATWOOD (July 21) — An Atwood man was seriously injured on Monday morning, around 9:30 a.m., when he drove his automobile into the path of a CSX maintenance vehicle that was traveling along the railroad tracks, just behind the old Atwood School.

Steven King was driving a Mercury vehicle and was attempting to cross the railroad track when his vehicle was struck on the driver’s side and pushed approximately 60 feet down the track.

First responders from Atwood and McLemoresville were first on the scene to extricate the trapped driver. Other first responders from the Carroll County Rescue Squad, Carroll County Sheriff’s Department, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Baptist EMS and Hospital Wing AirEvac responded to the scene.

The Jaws of Life was used to extricate the patient, who was then moved to an awaiting ambulance and air ambulance.

Details of the accident were not available at presstime. The Tennessee Highway Patrol will file the official accident report.
