August Unemployment Decreases in Tri-Counties
From the Oct 1, 2024 e-EditionNASHVILLE — Unemployment percentages are mixed in the tri-counties for the August survey period.
According to the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, unemployment dropped more than two percentage points in Weakley County while Carroll and Henry saw only a slight change.
Carroll County recorded an unemployment percentage of 4.1 percent in August, compared to 4.4 the month earlier and 4.4 percent one year earlier.
From a labor force of 11,701, there were 11,227 employed leaving 474 unemployed.
Henry County recorded an unemployment rate of 3.5 percent in August compared to 3.7 one month earlier and 3.6 one year earlier.
From a labor force of 13,832, there were 13,345 employed and 487 unemployed.
Weakley County recorded an unemployment rate of 4.2 percent, down from 6.3 one month earlier and 3.6 one year earlier.
From a labor force of 14,758, there were 14,145 employed and 613 unemployed.
In Tennessee, the unemployment rate decreased in 47 counties, increased in 28 and remained the same in 20.
The highest unemployment rate in Tennessee was recorded in Houston County with a rate of 5.7 percent, followed by McNairy at 5.2 percent.
The lowest unemployment rate was recorded in Sevier County at 2.5 percent, followed by Moore at 2.6 percent.
Tennessee’s overall rate is 3.3 percent.
