CLARKSBURG (April 20) — Children’s author Mike Fuller returned to Carroll County Monday, April 20, to share his new book, “Safety First,” with Clarksburg students.
Fuller, a Huntingdon High School graduate, is a travel nurse, set medic, musician and snowboarder. As a set medic, he has been involved in a handful of films and television shows including “Someone Like You” by Karen Kingsbury, “Ride” by Jake Allyn and “Street Outlaws” by Discovery TV. “Safety First” is Fuller’s second children’s story, published February 3, 2026.
“Safety First” is the second installment of Fuller’s “The Black Snowboarder” series. It follows main character Prince as he continues his adventure to Summit County, Colo. During a school field trip, Prince learns valuable lessons about mountain safety and respect for nature. He discovers fascinating facts about the mountain environment and celebrates the beauty of diversity among friends and classmates.
“Safety First” reminds readers that being safe and embracing differences makes every journey even more rewarding.
Fuller read his book to Clarksburg students. He spoke about all of the places he has snowboarded and explained his snowboarding equipment. He told kids he wanted all children to know they could do anything.
“I think it’s very important that students from our county want to come back and share their stories with other students,” said Gena Maddox, Clarksburg School librarian.
Braden Maddox sponsored the event, representing First Bank. Maddox graduated high school with Fuller. He provided pre-k through fifth-grade teachers with a coloring book and a copy of Fuller’s new book for their classrooms.
At the conclusion of the reading, Fuller and Maddox urged Clarksburg students to dream big.
