From the Jul 30, 2024 e-EditionRipley/McKenzie, Tenn.: A memorial gathering to celebrate the life of Mrs. Barbara Evelyn Vawter will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the chapel of Brummitt-McKenzie Funeral Home. A private interment will be held in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mrs. Vawter, 74, died Thursday, July 25, 2024, at her home in Ripley. She was born in McKenzie on December 20, 1949, to the late Billy Vawter and the late Evelyn Thomas Vawter.
Mrs. Vawter graduated from McKenzie High School, class of 1967. She furthered her education and received her bachelor's degree in education from Bethel University. Mrs. Vawter retired from teaching with the Lauderdale County School System.
Survivors include two sons, Bryan Vawter and wife Lisa of Ripley and Chad Barnhart and wife Bridgett of Huntingdon; brother Bobby Vawter of Memphis and sister Amy Vawter, also of Memphis. Other survivors include six grandchildren, Ben Vawter, Chelsea Olds, Kelcey Stephenson, Kiley Stephenson, Tanner Stephenson, and Jamie Stephenson, as well as three great-grandchildren, Briley, McKenzie, and Cohen.
