Bethel Continues to Honor Fallen Hero who Paid the Ultimate Sacrifice

McKENZIE (May 25) — On Memorial Day, Bethel University and the Wildcat Athletic Department took time to remember and thank all those who have served and paid the ultimate sacrifice. We are grateful for their protection of our freedoms and way of life.

This is an everyday theme for those who visit Wildcat Stadium.

David "Dustin" Finch was killed serving our country in Iraq in December 2010. Dustin was a student at Bethel from 2005-2009 and a major contributor to the football program for four years.

The Wildcat Football program and Bethel University continues to honor Dustin with a tribute in the Kermit Holland Wildcat VIP Suite at Wildcat Stadium. A shadowbox with photos and the following message from the coaching staff and players reads: "Dustin Finch is a true Wildcat. He will live forever in our minds and hearts. We are proud to have him as a member of our family."

Also included is the following Bible verse: 1 John 3:16 "This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters."

"Dustin was built to be in the Army," former Bethel Head Coach Chris Elliott said. "He was really happy with the decision he made. Dustin was the kind of guy who would do anything we asked him to do and do it with a smile on his face. We are extremely sad to have lost Dustin but are very proud to have him as part of our program. He has been and always will be a Wildcat."

Elliott recruited Dustin Finch from Humboldt High School to play at Bethel, where he played several positions, including linebacker.

The jersey #41 will never be worn again by a Wildcat in honor and memory of Dustin Finch, our Wildcat Hero.
