Bethel to Bring ‘Newsies’ to The Dixie
From the Oct 21, 2025 e-EditionBethel University’s Renaissance Theatre takes the Dixie Carter Performing Arts Center stage with their rendition of Disney’s “Newsies” November 1, 7 and 8.
“Newsies” is an “inspiring story of standing strong, speaking up and making headlines,” according to a press release from The Dixie. Based on the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899, the musical tells the story of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragtag band of teenage “newsies” who dream of a better life far from the hardships of the streets. When publishing titans raise the distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies his fellow newsies to fight for justice.
“Bethel’s theatre program is well-known for its talent in the community,” said Rosemary Radford, brand manager at The Dixie. “From ‘Phantom of the Opera,’ ‘Anastasia,’ and ‘A Christmas Carol,’ these talented students bring non-stop energy, thrilling choreography, and unforgettable songs. ‘Newsies’ will be another example of Renaissance Theatre’s passion for what they do.”
“Newsies” is appropriate for all ages and has a PG-rating. Audiences can get a sneak peek into the story before the live production by streaming it on Disney+.
Renaissance presents “Newsies” Saturday, November 1, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.; Friday, November 7, at 7 p.m.; and Saturday, November 8, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
This show is sponsored by Tennessee Valley Realty and Investment Group, PLLC. Tickets, ranging $15-$20 depending on seat selection, are available online at DixiePAC.net and through The Dixie’s box office at 731-986-2100. The box office is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
