Eight members of the Bethel/Eastside FCE gathered at the home of Mary and Pennye Mays on July 10. The meeting was called to order by our president, Gail Eubanks. For the devotion, she read the Club Pledge from the front of our book. Roll call was answered with the prompt: “Take an item from your purse and share its significance to you.” The treasury report was presented and approved, with no changes to the minutes, which were accepted as read.

In old business: Cakes for last month’s visit to Huntingdon Health and Rehab (the nursing home) were made by Judy Roberts and Jean Wininger. This month, cakes will be prepared by Danita Laman and Gail Eubanks. It was voted to provide cakes each month instead of quarterly as we had previously done.

In new business:
- Important dates to remember:
- Cluster meeting on July 25th in Erin, Tennessee.
- Carroll County Fair starts on August 3rd.
- Mini Conference is on August 5th in Jackson.
Ms. Sue Smith has moved to Lakeside Retirement Home and will be joining the Macedonia FCE Club. We will miss her but look forward to seeing her at the rallies.

The educational program was presented by our hostess, Danita Laman. She focused on “Why We Say Some of the Phrases We Say,” discussing various old wives’ tales, adages, and idioms. Some examples included “Take what he says with a grain of salt,” “He’s dead as a doornail,” and “By and large.” It was quite interesting.

The meeting concluded with the reading of a household hint: Your lint filter could be clogged without you realizing it. Run it under a stream of water; if the water doesn’t pass through, wash it with soap and water. They often get clogged from the chemicals in dryer sheets.

The hostess for our next meeting on August 14 will be Judy Roberts.
