Bethel/Eastside FCE Met
From the Jun 24, 2025 e-EditionThere were 5 members present for the June 12 meeting which was called to order by our vice president, Pennye Mays, in the home of Pennye and Mary Mays. We read the Club Pledge in unison followed by the thought for the day, "The tans will fade but the memories will last forever."
The roll call was answered with, "What is your favorite summer activity or vacation spot?". The minutes were passed over and the treasury report was given and approved.
Old business: Judy Roberts will take care of the cakes for the nursing home with assistance from Jean Wininger.
New business: The soup luncheon was gone over. It is October 17, 2025 with each club bringing three soups, two desserts, a cornbread, a tea and lemonade.
Pennye- potato soup and banana pudding
Jean - broccoli and cheese soup
Gail - zucchini soup
Judy - Mexican cornbread and Ding Dong cake
Mary - sweet tea and lemonade
The educational program was presented by Mary Mays, our June hostess.
She began with a few crabby old lady funnies and moved on to home remedies and then on to the program, facts on ice cream.
Ice cream was invented in 618 AD by the Chinese. Chocolate was the first flavor, and then came vanilla. The first written recipe was done in 1665. The first ice cream parlor was in America in 1776. Ice cream became an industry in 1851. The tallest ice cream was nine feet tall in Italy. The average American consumes 45.8 pints a year. The ice cream industry makes a profit of over $21 billion a year. Fun fact: It takes 50 licks to eat an ice cream cone.
The meeting was adjourned so we could all enjoy some homemade ice cream.
Next meeting, the July hostess will be Danita Laman.
