Bulldogs Defeat War Eagles

ATWOOD (April 3) — West Carroll High School hosted Gleason baseball Friday afternoon. After two lead changes early, the visiting Bulldogs pulled away for a 14-4 win in five innings.

Gleason struck first with a pair of runs in the top of the first frame. West Carroll answered with one in the home half, then scored three to take the lead in the second. The Bulldogs tied it with two runs in the top of the third, then scored five each in the fourth and fifth innings to claim the win.

Bulldog Drake Lehmkuhl was 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Ashton Morgan was 1-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Ty Keeling was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Trey Mayo was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Caleb Jones was 1-for-1 with a walk, three runs scored and a stolen base. Parker Morgan was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Brody Sanders was 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base.

War Eagle Jason Roberts was 2-for-2 with a run scored. Caleb Vermillion was 0-for-0 with two walks, a run scored and a stolen base. Eli Bryant was 0-for-1 with two walks and an RBI. Ethan Baker was 0-for-1 with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base. R.Q. Thompson was 0-for-2 with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base. J.W. Rushing was 0-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base.

Drake Lehmkuhl got the start for Gleason, allowing two earned runs on no hits while walking four and striking out one in an inning and a third. Bryce Pettit pitched three and two-thirds innings of relief and earned the win, allowing two earned runs on two hits while walking three and striking out four.

Eli Bryant took the loss for West Carroll, allowing 12 runs (five earned) on eight hits while walking four and striking out five in four and a third innings. Sawyer Jackson pitched the final two-thirds of an inning, allowing two unearned runs on two hits and a walk.
