District 14A Boys Basketball Tournament

Bulldogs are District Runner-Up

McKENZIE (February 26) — The Gleason High School Bulldogs are runner-up in the District 14A Boys Basketball Tournament hosted by Bethel University after a 61-37 loss to Union City in Wednesday’s championship game.

Following the game, district awards were presented.

The District 14A All-District Team included Gleason’s Kade Sawyers and Drake Lehmkuhl; Dresden’s Arden Smith; Greenfield’s Easton Sullivan and Cruze Porter; Lake County’s Jataveion Ricks and Camden Chamberlain; South Fulton’s Charles Michael Mulcahy and Brady McFarland; and Union City’s Hollister Johnson, Finn Frankum, Jamarious Abbott, Kwinton Purefoy and Player of the Year Ben Kail. The Coach of the Year was Union City’s Shane Sisco.

The All-Defensive team included Lake County’s Camden Chamberlain and Jataveion Ricks; Union City’s Finn Frankum and DJ Evans; and Defensive Player of the Year Arden Smith of Dresden.

The All-Tournament team included Gleason’s Kade Sawyers and Drake Lehmkuhl; Greenfield’s Cruze Porter; South Fulton’s Charles Michael Mulcahy; and Union City’s Hollister Johnson, Finn Frankum and MVP Ben Kail.

The All-Academic team included Gleason’s Owen Taylor; Dresden’s Tanner Oliver; Greenfield’s Brady Archie; Lake County’s Brady Smith; South Fulton’s Brady McFarland, Connor O’Neal and Cole Suiter; and Union City’s Ben Kail.

The Tornadoes stormed out to a 22-7 lead after the first frame and led 33-12 at the half. The third was a 13-13 wash, and Union City capped the win with a 15-12 edge in the fourth.

Union City’s Ben Kail led all scorers with 21 points, including a trio of three-pointers. Other scorers were Hollister Johnson (16), Kenny Moss (8), Kwinton Purefoy (6), Finn Frankum (4), DJ Evans (2), Tayshun Gentry (2) and Kyren Fuller (2).

Parker Morgan led Gleason with 15 points, including a trio of threes. Kade Sawyers scored a dozen with a three-pointer. Brody Sanders had eight points, and Drake Lehmkuhl had a pair.
