Bulldogs Win Back-and-Forth with Greenfield, Lady Bulldogs Fall
From the Jan 21, 2025 e-EditionGLEASON (January 14) — Gleason High School hosted Greenfield Tuesday for a pair of district basketball contests. The Lady Yellowjackets pulled away early for a 70-29 win, while the Bulldogs came out on top, 59-57, in a swingy game with multiple lead changes.
Greenfield Lady Yellowjackets 70, Gleason Lady Bulldogs 29
The Lady Yellowjackets had an 18-8 lead after the opening frame, led by Jayleigh Bowers with nine points, including a pair of three-pointers. Rayanna Fisher scored five with a three, and Ella Porter had four points. Lady Bulldogs Skylar Arnold and Ahmyre Allen each scored four points.
Greenfield doubled up Gleason 20-10 in the second quarter, led by Bowers with 13 points, including a trio of threes. Fisher scored four, and Porter had three points. Lady Bulldog Addy Black scored five with a three, Allen had three points, and Arnold added a pair. At the half, Greenfield led 38-18.
The Lady Yellowjackets had an 18-9 advantage in the third, led by Porter with eight points. Fisher scored five with a three, Brenley Little had four points, and Kensie Garner hit a free throw. Allen led Gleason with seven points, including a three. Arnold added a pair. Entering the final frame, the Lady Yellowjackets led 56-27.
Greenfield sealed the win with a 14-2 tilt in the fourth, led by Fisher with four points, including a three. Little, Bowers, Porter, Maddi Paschall and Ashlyn Bryant each had a pair. Lady Bulldog Hylan Leach scored two points.
Lady Yellowjacket Jayleigh Bowers led all scorers with 24 points, including five three-pointers. Rayanna Fisher scored 18 with a trio of threes, and Ella Porter had 17 points.
Ahmyre Allen led Gleason with 14 points, including a three-pointer.
Bulldogs 59, Yellowjackets 57
Gleason jumped out to a 16-6 lead after the first frame, led by Drake Lehmkuhl and Kade Sawyers with six points each, Lehmkuhl with a three-pointer. Parker Morgan and Brody Sanders each had a pair. Yellowjacket Nick Brown scored four points, and Westin Porter had a pair.
Greenfield doubled up Gleason 20-10 in the second quarter for a halftime tie, led by Anthony Green with ten points. Cruze Porter scored four points, and Baker Biggs hit a three. Brown added a pair, and Easton Sullivan hit a free throw. Sawyers led Gleason with six points. Ashton Morgan had a pair, and Lehmkuhl and Owen Taylor each hit a free throw. At the half, the score was knotted at 26-26.
The Yellowjackets took the lead with a 20-18 edge in the third, led by Brown with nine points, including a three-pointer. Sullivan scored six, Green hit a three, and C. Porter added a pair. Sawyers again led Gleason with six points. P. Morgan and Sanders each scored four, and Lehmkuhl and Taylor each added a pair. Heading into the final frame, Greenfield led 46-44.
Gleason regained the lead and claimed the win with a 15-11 tilt in the fourth, led by Sawyers with eight points. Lehmkuhl scored three, and Taylor and Sanders each added a pair. Brown scored five for Greenfield with a three-pointer. Sullivan also hit a three, and C. Porter scored three points.
Bulldog Kade Sawyers led all scorers with 26 points. Drake Lehmkuhl scored a dozen with a three-pointer.
Nick Brown led Greenfield with 20 points, including a pair of threes. Anthony Green scored 13 with a three, and Easton Sullivan had ten points with a three-pointer.
