Candidates Seek Municipal Offices in November

CARROLL COUNTY (August 12) — The November 5 general elections include the U.S. President, U.S. Senator, U.S. House of Representatives, State Senators, State Representatives, and local municipalities.

The qualifying deadline for local municipal candidates is Thursday, August 15, noon. Petitions to seek those offices can be picked up at the Carroll County Election Commission.

Municipal elections include the City of McKenzie, and towns of Atwood, Bruceton, Hollow Rock, Huntingdon and Trezevant.

Persons interested in seeking office must be at least 18 years of age and meet the residency requirements of each municipality.

Here are the persons who have picked up petitions to seek election. The Election Commission released the following names of persons, who picked up petitions to seek election. A designation of qualified means the person has obtained the necessary 25 signatures from registered voters in the municipality and that person’s name is now eligible to be placed on the ballot.

McKenzie — Three councilman will be elected at-large. Former Mayor Jill Holland, J Drew Beeler and Tim McBride have filed their petition. Josefina Batton and Jessie Townes have picked up a petition, but not yet filed. There is not a mayoral race.

Huntingdon — Chad Edwards and Mayor Nina Smothers have both qualified to seek the office of mayor of Huntingdon.

William Atkins, Chad Barnhart, Lori Dillahunty, Daniel Eubanks and Barbara Knuutila have all qualified to seek the office of Huntingdon Council member.

Trezevant — Two persons have picked up petitions for the office of mayor. Mayor Bobby Blaylock, incumbent, has qualified and Roy Traywick has picked up a petition to run for mayor. Robert Argo and Leon Lyell have both qualified to run for the office of alderman.

Atwood — Ricky Long and Gerald Mauldin have qualified to run for alderman.

Bruceton — Chris Cole, Doug Fischer, Scotty Higdon,and Cliff Sturdivant have qualified for the position of alderman. Renee Ford-Ward has picked up a petition, but not yet qualified.

Hollow Rock — Ashley Cook, Vivian Grooms, and T. Richard Goodwin have qualified for the office of alderman Jackson Crocker and Ronnie Webb have picked up petitions, but not yet qualified.
