Carroll County Goes Back to School

Thousands of students across Carroll County made their trek back to school last week, with August 4 being the official first day of the 2026-27 school year.

Directors at Carroll County's five special school districts released preliminary enrollment information on Friday, August 7.

The McKenzie Special School District entered the new school year with 1,280 students. McKenzie Elementary School has a total of 512 students, including 48 pre-kindergarten students; McKenzie Middle School has 395 students; and McKenzie High School has 373 students.

The Huntingdon Special School District began the year with 1,312 students. Huntingdon Primary had 411 students, Huntingdon Middle had 520 students and Huntingdon High School had 381 students by the end of the first week.

Clarksburg School finished the first week of school with 268 students across kindergarten through twelfth grade.

Hollow Rock-Bruceton Special School District finished the first week of school with 620 students across pre-kindergarten and twelfth grade. Central Elementary School has 282 students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, Central Middle School has 142 students in sixth through eighth grade, and Central High School has 192 students in ninth through tenth grade.

The West Carroll School District began the school year with 725 students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade, which Director of Schools Preston Caldwell said was almost equal to the enrollment with which the district ended the 2025-26 school year. School-specific information was not available.
