Driving on revoked license

On July 15, Deputy Dustin McClure conducted a traffic stop after observing a gold Buick sedan traveling without visible registration and with a broken passenger-side taillight on East Main Street in Atwood. The driver was identified as Laura Holley, 32, of Atwood.

Holley told Deputy McClure she had just left a gas station after purchasing headache medicine. She also advised she was epileptic and requested the deputy turn off the patrol vehicle's emergency lights because she was feeling faint. Dispatch confirmed Holley's driver's license had been revoked for a DUI conviction in Georgia and had not been reinstated.

Deputies learned Holley's three children were riding in the vehicle. Because of her reported medical condition and the fact that no one was available to care for the children, Holley was issued a citation into Carroll County General Sessions Court rather than being taken into custody. She also received verbal warnings for the equipment, registration and insurance violations.

Holley was cited for driving on a revoked license.

Vandalism

On July 17, Deputy James Boaz responded to the Carroll County Jail after jail staff reported an inmate had damaged jail property. The inmate was identified as Cedric Worles, 51, of Humboldt.

Correctional officers reported Worles had removed an air-conditioning vent cover from the wall inside his cell. When staff attempted to retrieve the vent cover, Worles was holding it along with a plunger and told officers, "Come in and get it." After several requests, he surrendered both items to correctional staff.

The damaged vent cover was valued at approximately $180.

Worles was charged with vandalism.

Possession of Schedule II methamphetamine

On July 18, Deputy Steven Scott conducted a traffic stop in McLemoresville after observing a vehicle driven by a registered owner whose driver's license had been revoked. During the stop, Deputy Scott detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The passenger was identified as Anna Reasons, 45, of Cedar Grove.

The driver admitted there was a marijuana cigarette inside the vehicle. Deputies located a marijuana roach on the dashboard and a rolled marijuana cigarette in the ashtray. During a search of the vehicle, deputies found approximately one gram of methamphetamine inside a small container concealed behind the passenger seat. The container also held a marijuana roach with lipstick on it. Reasons denied knowing anything about the container.

Reasons was arrested and charged with possession of Schedule II methamphetamine.

Possession of Schedule VI marijuana / possession of drug paraphernalia

On July 19, Deputy Alex Sherwood conducted a traffic stop after observing a vehicle traveling without registration plates on Veterans Drive in Huntingdon. The driver was identified as David McGee Jr., 38, of Rosenberg, Texas.

During the investigation, deputies learned McGee was wanted on an active felony warrant out of Stewart County for violation of community corrections stemming from charges that included possession of Schedule II cocaine or methamphetamine, felony failure to appear, aggravated assault and two counts of possession of Schedule VI marijuana. McGee was taken into custody on the warrant.

While conducting a search of the vehicle incident to the arrest and an inventory before it was towed, deputies located approximately two ounces of marijuana inside McGee's backpacks. Deputies also recovered approximately three grams of loose marijuana, a marijuana smoking pipe and rolling papers.

McGee was charged with possession of Schedule VI marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also held on the active Stewart County warrant.

Identity theft investigation

On July 21, Deputy Heather Townes responded to a residence in Atwood after receiving a report of a possible identity theft.

The complainant reported receiving a letter from a debt collection agency stating he was responsible for a delinquent rental property account owed to a company in the amount of $17,173.24. The complainant advised he had never co-signed for the property and had never conducted business with the company.

The complainant notified his bank and loan officer, who contacted the company and was advised a police report should be filed if the account had been opened fraudulently. Deputy Townes attempted to contact the company using the telephone number listed in the letter but was unable to reach anyone. At the time of the report, deputies found no discrepancies on the complainant's credit report and no unauthorized withdrawals from the complainant's bank account.

The investigation remains ongoing.
