Felony vandalism

On Aug. 29, Deputy Bradley Hardin responded to a report of vandalism at a residence in Yuma and made contact with Jaime Garzon, 26, of Yuma.

Deputies learned Garzon had become intoxicated the previous night and into the early morning hours before damaging the residence he was renting while working in the United States. Investigators determined Garzon, who does not speak English, caused extensive damage inside the home. Deputies found three interior doors and multiple door frames damaged beyond repair. One door frame had been completely destroyed, with most of it lying on the floor still attached to the door. Deputies also discovered a bedroom window had been completely shattered by what appeared to be an object rather than a fist or foot. The estimated damage totaled approximately $1,200.

Garzon was arrested and charged with felony vandalism.

Public intoxication / evading arrest

On Aug. 29, Sgt. Scotty Davis responded to a report of a man walking in traffic along Highway 70 near Flippin Lane. Witnesses reported the man was talking to himself, throwing his arms in the air and walking into oncoming traffic.

Deputies located Ricky Webb, 52, of Humboldt, and directed him to move into a nearby driveway for his safety and the safety of motorists. Webb refused to identify himself and appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance. Deputies observed Webb sweating heavily, talking to people who were not present and behaving erratically. Sgt. Davis provided Webb with a bottle of water, but Webb walked back into oncoming traffic and ignored repeated verbal commands to stop.

After a brief struggle, deputies detained Webb and placed him under arrest for public intoxication. While Sgt. Davis was preparing to place Webb into the patrol vehicle, Webb fled on foot. Deputies quickly caught him after a short chase and secured him in the patrol unit. Webb continued speaking to people who were not present and told deputies he was talking to God.

Webb was arrested and charged with public intoxication and evading arrest. Jail staff were advised to contact mental health personnel regarding Webb's condition.
