From the Apr 23, 2024 e-Edition
HUNTINGDON (April 16) — Carroll County Relay For Life teams, spearheaded by the Baptist Memorial Hospital-Carroll County’s Relay Team hosted the Celebrity Waiter Dinner to raise funds to benefit the American Cancer Society.
Celebrity waiters from throughout Carroll County sold dinner tickets to their respective tables of guests. The waiters then served their guests. Funds were generated from ticket sales, tips to the waiters, and through an auction of items, such as centerpieces or tickets to movies, gift cards to restaurants, and overnight lodging.
Jennifer Horton and Michelle Tucker were the co-leaders who organized the event. Carl Byars served as the auctioneer.
Each waiter announced his or her item to be auctioned and urged the attendees to bid high and often.
Curt Lumley, Hollow Rock Fire Department, raised the most money at $680 as the celebrity waiter.
The event raised approximately $10,885 with expenses to be deducted.
