BRUCETON (May 18) — Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central High School held commencement Sunday evening at Joe T. Herndon Stadium, celebrating the graduation of 39 seniors.
The graduates entered the stadium to the traditional "Pomp and Circumstance" played by the Central Tiger band.
An invocation was delivered by graduate Connor Kothe, and the National Anthem was performed by Tremayne Johnson, father of graduate Korvelle Johnson.
Class President Mary Williams welcomed all, saying in part, "Thirteen years of education have passed and now it's time for the Class of 2025 to accept the change and say goodbye to this chapter of our lives. Also, it is time to thank those whose impacts have made this chapter so special - our parents, friends, educators, and community. We would not have come this far without your unwavering love, kindness, guidance, and support you have shown to us over these thirteen years."
Principal Chris Finley spoke about each student, listing accomplishments and awards and relaying their future plans.
Salutatorian Spencer Ervin delivered remarks, saying in part, "To my classmates, what a journey! We’ve grown up together. We’ve figured out who we are, and even who we aren’t. We’ve learned that sometimes, life gives you a plan and sometimes, it gives you something unexpected. Either way, we showed up and kept going. So, as we head into whatever is next–college, work, the military, or the unknown–let’s keep showing up. Let’s keep growing. Because if we have made it this far, we’re already stronger than we think. Congratulations, Class of 2025. We did it–and we did it together!"
Valedictorian Mary Williams returned to the podium for her speech, saying in part, "As we stand on the brink of the future, the possibilities before us are endless. We still have our whole lives ahead of us. This is only just the beginning. Some of us will go on to college, some to the workforce, and some to the military. Although it seems scary, so did our first day of kindergarten, and look at how many amazing things have happened since then. As we step into the “real world”, each of us will take a different path, but we will all carry the lessons, friendships, and experiences of these years with us."
Diplomas were presented by Principal Finley, School Board Chairman Brad Hurley and Director of Schools Dr. Myles Hebrand. Several school staff members presented diplomas to graduating family members.
Senior band members joined the band one last time for the playing of the Alma Mater.
Graduate Korvelle Johnson delivered the closing benediction.
The new graduates lined up on the sideline in front of the gathered crowd and toss their caps to end the ceremony.
