From the Aug 11, 2026 e-EditionCharles E. (Chuck) Gillenwater, 79, died on July 6, 2026, in San Francisco, California. A graveside service for him will be on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Chuck was born in McKenzie on October 10, 1946, to Charles E. and Virginia Hickerson Gillenwater. The family moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1954.
He served in the Air Force as a Morse code interceptor while stationed in the Philippines and enjoyed a long career as a travel agent in San Francisco.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his maternal grandparents Ben and Nova Hickerson of McKenzie, and his paternal grandparents Mack Ed and Valda Steele Gillenwater of Dresden.
He is survived by his brother Phil (Christine) Gillenwater of Chattanooga, niece Patti (Bill) Dillard, and nephew Michael Gillenwater
