City Florist Enters New Era with Ribbon Cutting

McKENZIE (October 28) — The McKenzie Chamber of Commerce and Industrial Development Board ushered in a new era of McKenzie City Florist & More with a ribbon cutting Tuesday, celebrating Courtney Satterfield’s purchase of McKenzie’s landmark flower and gift shop.

McKenzie City Florist is a landmark business that has served McKenzie and its surrounding communities since 1983. In 42 years, the business has had only three owners: Violet Satterfield (1983-2018), David Jarrett and Michele Jarrett Love (2018-2025) and, now, Satterfield.

“I was worried for a while that we were going to lose our florist,” said Monica Heath, director of the McKenzie Chamber of Commerce and Industrial Development Board. “So I was very happy when I heard [the Satterfields] were taking over. It’s important to have them, and it’s important for the community to support them.”

Satterfield and her family assured attendees that they would take care of the florist and keep its legacy alive. As Satterfield’s daughter, Kylie, said, “Mama will work here forever.”

Satterfield took over McKenzie City Florist in August, just in time for McKenzie’s annual Sweet Tea Festival. Since then, she’s also contributed to McKenzie High School’s homecoming festivities and various other local events. Now, she and her employees — Lisa Hawkins and Ashlee Simer — are working to prepare the florist for Christmas Open House November 15 and 16.

McKenzie City Florist & More, located at 17 Broadway Street in McKenzie, sells flowers and gifts for nearly every occasion. The store is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
