Clarksburg Defeats Gleason

CLARKSBURG (April 10) — Clarksburg High School softball hosted Gleason Friday. The visiting Lady Bulldogs kept pace early, but the Lady Rockets pulled away in the fourth inning for a 15-5 win.

Gleason struck first with a pair of runs in the top of the first frame, but Clarksburg pulled ahead with five in the home half. The Lady Bulldogs tied it with three in the second, but it was all Lady Rockets from there, with a run in the bottom of the second, two in the third, six in the fourth and one in the fifth to end the game early.

Lady Rocket Carlie Swinford was 3-for-4 with an RBI, three runs scored and two stolen bases. Brooklyn Laws was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Alyssa Belew was 2-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base. Natalie Scott was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, three runs scored and two stolen bases. Addison Milam and Molly Williams were both 1-for-4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases.

Lady Bulldog Zoe Healy was 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs, a run scored and a stolen base. Kadence Witherspoon was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Ava Bennett was 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Addison Milam earned the complete-game win for Clarksburg, allowing five runs (two earned) on five hits while walking three and striking out six.

Emma Pettit took the loss for Gleason, allowing nine runs (two earned) on four hits while walking two and striking out two in three innings. Marley Crews pitched the final inning and two-thirds, allowing six runs (three earned) on six hits and a walk.
