CLARKSBURG (March 30, 2026) - South Carroll County Special School District has been awarded a $975,823 Distance Learning and Telemedicine (DLT) grant from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The funding will be shared among multiple school districts across Carroll County, supporting a collaborative effort to enhance educational and technological resources throughout the county.
South Carroll County Special School District applied for the grant and will serve as the fiscal agent for the project. The funding will be used to purchase a wide range of technology equipment, including Chromebooks, computers, large screen displays, telemedicine equipment, and other presentation display tools.
This grant represents a coordinated partnership among the school districts in Carroll County, led by Dr. Lisa Norris of South Carroll. The initiative reflects a shared commitment to expanding access to modern technology and improving educational opportunities for students across the county.
“These funds will help us purchase much-needed technology to better equip our students for post-secondary training and future careers,” said Dr. Norris. “We were excited to collaborate with the other districts on this joint project and are grateful for the opportunity to strengthen learning environments across our community.”
The DLT grant program aims to increase access to education, training, and healthcare resources in rural areas through the use of advanced telecommunications technologies. This investment will support both classroom instruction and telemedicine capabilities, helping to bridge gaps in access and prepare students for success beyond graduation.
