McKenzie City Council to Appoint New Member
Broadway Street Directional Change Makes Agenda
From the May 7, 2024 e-Edition
The McKenzie City Council meets Thursday at 6 p.m. at City Hall for the scheduled May meeting. Prior to the meeting, there is a scheduled workshop at 5 p.m. about the proposed 2024-25 budget. On Thursday’s agenda, the City of McKenzie will discuss and approve the resignation of Councilman Charles Pruneau, and then at the behest of Mayor Ryan Griffin, they will approve his nomination of Drew Beeler to fill the vacancy. In recent history, upon the acceptance of a councilperson’s resignation, the public has been notified of the vacancy, and letters/resumes stating interest in the position were provided to council members at the next monthly meeting.
The directional change of Broadway from a two-way street to a one-way is included on the agenda. In what appears to be an ex post facto (after the fact) move, Mayor Griffin will ask for the Council’s approval to change the flow of traffic. On Tuesday, April 23, 2024, Broadway was converted to a one-way street without public notice or input. Mayor Griffin confirmed he made the decision.
Included in the agenda is the first reading of Ordinance 568, the City of McKenzie’s Fiscal Year Budget for 2024-2025; Resolution 24-000 authorizing a City Election on the November 5, 2024 ballot; the approval to appoint Tim Beeler to the McKenzie Regional Planning Commission; the approval to appoint Dennis Coleman to the Housing Authority for a four-year term.
Citizens are strongly encouraged to attend the meeting but if they wish to speak, they have to provide 24-hour notice to the City to address the council. If you are unable to attend but would like to contact members of the McKenzie City Council contact phone numbers are available below.
