Ten Students Selected as County Athletes of the Year

HUNTINGDON (May 2) — During Saturday night's Carroll County Sports Hall of Fame banquet, ten students were recognized as Carroll County High School Athletes of the Year.

Chosen for their achievements in the classroom and in their respective sports, these ten students each received $300 scholarships funded by the Jimmy Carey Foundation and the Carroll County Sports Hall of Fame to be used at a university or trade school.

The Carroll County Sports Hall of Fame Board selected two students from each of Carroll County's five high schools.

 

Clarksburg School

Addison Milam is the daughter of Josh and Erica Milam. In softball, Milam has had 200 career strikeouts. She was named All-District for four years and All-Tournament for two years. Milam also received the Rocket Award. She also played volleyball, where she was named All-Academic and All-District. In basketball, she was Most Improved and received the Coach's Award and the Three Point Award. She was also named All-District in basketball. Milam is involved in Beta Club, HOSA, FFA, FBLA and Healthy Teens. She won the Criminal Justice Award and the Beta National Award, and she has a GPA of 3.73.

Milam plans to attend Jackson State Community College and study nursing.

Trae Cobb is the son of Nick and Lindsey Cobb. He's involved in basketball, for which he was named All-District for two years. He is in the 1000-Point Club, having scored over 1000 career points. He was Defensive MVP, Offensive MVP, and Team MVP in All-Academic District 12 A in baseball. He was All-District for two years and won the Golden Glove Award. He has been involved in Beta Club, HOSA, Healthy Teens, FFA and FCS. He has a 3.65 GPA. He played basketball and baseball for five years and was also on the golf team.

Cobb plans to attend the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and get a degree in Health and Human Performance to become an athletic trainer.

 

Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central High School

Madison Holder is a softball player, making it to the 12A All-Tournament and 12A All-District teams. She was also named to the TSCA All-State team. She was a 2025 12A District, Co-MVP. She is the 2025 West Tennessee 1A Miss Softball. She is also involved in cross country. Holder received the 2024 Award of Excellence for sportsmanship, ethics and integrity. She is involved in the National Beta Club and is involved in Student Council as a twelfth-grade representative. She is in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the History Club, the Spanish Club and the Math Club.

Having a 4.0 GPA, Holder plans to attend Covenant College and play softball at the next level while majoring in Biology. Her wish is to attend medical school.

Seth Thomas is the son of David and Amanda Thomas. He's a two-time All-Region athlete in football. He's second in all-time receiving yards in school history. He's a two-time Nick Brown Wide Receiver Award recipient. He also received the Vernon Spencer Sportsmanship Award. He was All-Tournament in soccer. He has been on the Principal's Honor Roll every year. He is involved in the National Senior Beta Club, Student Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, History Club and is a Class Officer. His current GPA is 4.0.

Thomas plans to attend the University of Tennessee at Martin in the fall, majoring in Business. He hopes to become a real estate broker.

 

Huntingdon High School

Broox Bennett is the son of Seth and Jill Bennett. He is the Huntington Quarterback Club MVP and the football team captain. He participated in the North and South All-Star Game. He earned  First Team All-Region and Second Team All-West Tennessee in football. He also received the Huntingdon Linebacker Award. In baseball, he was named All-District. He was also named to the 2024 Super-Sophomore baseball team. He is involved in National Beta Club, JAG and the Mustang Mentors. His current GPA is 3.89.

Bennett plans to attend the University of Tennessee at Martin in the fall and major in Finance.

Caleb Ezell is the son of Clint and Monica Ezell. He is a four-year starter in basketball and baseball. Ezell earned All-District, All-Region and All-State in baseball and has also been All-District and All-Region in basketball. He has 1300 career points and 300 assists in basketball. In baseball, his career pitching record is 22 and seven. He is involved in the National Senior Beta Club and is a Mustang Mentor. He has a 3.6 GPA.

Ezell plans to attend the University of Tennessee at Martin in the fall and major in Accounting.

 

McKenzie High School

Charli Weatherford is the daughter of Kelly and Clara Weatherford. She was voted senior superlative Most Athletic Girl. She is a three-time nominee for the Jackson Sun Female Athlete of the Week. She is a four-time individual top-three finisher in the TSSAA Division 1 Class A District Tournament. She is a match medalist and a three-time individual top 10 finisher in the TSSAA Division 1 Class A Region 7 tournament. She also earned match medalist honors in 2025. She earned an eighth-place individual finish in the 2025 TSSAA State Golf Championship and has been honored by the McKenzie Mayor and City Council with a proclamation for her golf accomplishments. In her senior year, Weatherford had a scoring average of 38 for matches and 75 for tournaments. She's a match medalist for the 11-11 regular season matches and second individual finish in the three-by-three regular season tournaments. Weatherford also played two years on the basketball team. She is involved in the National Senior Beta Club, M Club, Science Club, Spanish Club, and the yearbook staff. Her current GPA is 3.6.

Weatherford has signed to play golf for the Bethel University Lady Wildcats. While at Bethel, she will complete her general education coursework, and she plans to transfer and complete courses in dental hygiene.

Ryan Toombs is the son of Randy and Reni Toombs. He was named to the 2024 Football All-Region First Team. He was All-Region Prep, Red Zone, All-State Class 1A 2024 and 2025. He was a 2025 Tennessee FCA All-State, he was second team All-West Tennessee and he was also involved with the Northwest Tennessee All-Star game. He also ran track and field at McKenzie. He's involved in the Beta Club, FCA, M Club, YoungLife, Yearbook and the McKenzie First Baptist Church Youth Group. He has a GPA of 3.95.

He plans to pursue a career in aviation and become a professional pilot. He will attend the University of Tennessee at Martin to study  Sports Management.

 

West Carroll High School

Hailey Mitchell is the daughter of Kisha Sherrock and Mike Mitchell. She made the Basketball All-District team in 2024 and 2025. She was also on the All-District team in 2026. Mitchell was named Basketball All-Academic in 2026. She is a member of the 500-Rebound Club. Mitchell is involved in Beta Club, the Yearbook Club, FCA  and HOSA. She is the vice president of her class and the vice president of Student Government. Her current GPA is 4.0 with 24 hours college credit.

Mitchell plans to continue her basketball career at the collegiate level.

Chandler Rimmer is the son of Andy and Lindsay Morton. He has received the 2026 All-Academic award. He is a member of the 2026 All-Academic basketball team. He also plays basketball and golf. Rimmer is a four-year member of the Beta Club, FBLA and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He is also a member of the Carroll County Youth Leadership Class of 2026. His current GPA is 3.79.

Chandler plans to attend a four-year university to study business and marketing. He hopes to work as a day trader and entrepreneur upon graduation.
