HUNTINGDON (May 30) — The Carroll County Budget Committee met to discuss upcoming financial issues before the end of the fiscal year. Members were updated on the payoff amount for a loan by the Highway Department. That amount is set at $206,688.82, the Committee already allocated $209,000 in the upcoming fiscal year budget. This amounts to a savings of $25 a day for Carroll County.

Members were updated on the issuance of insurance checks from the Hico Rural Fire Department’s fire. Carroll County received checks for approximately $190,216 for the building, pumper truck and miscellaneous equipment. Those funds will be deposited into the fund balance and will be allocated accordingly. The Hico Fire Department will not be rebuilt because of its proximity to the McKenzie Fire Department’s range of coverage.

Budget Chairman Darrell Ridgley stated he wants a plan of action for the County’s Rural Fire Department’s Chief Amanda Sneed before that money is released. It was mentioned that CTAS and Chief Sneed have set a date to meet with the Rural Fire Committee and work on insurance issues.

The Committee was also made aware of the pledge of $200,000 to the Civic Center. This would offset the 10% match of the facility’s recent awarding of a $2 million grant for the state. Also noted were three line item amendments to the year-end budget which include money to the juvenile court and money to multiple utility districts from reimbursements of ARPA money.
