Carroll County Participants Log Over 10,600 Miles in Walk Across Tennessee Challenge
From the Nov 25, 2025 e-EditionCarroll County residents once again laced up their shoes and stepped their way to impressive achievements during this year’s Walk Across Tennessee Challenge, coordinated by UT Extension. Over the course of the eight-week program, nine teams completed the challenge and collectively logged 10,663.31 miles—more than enough to walk across the state of Tennessee more than 20 times.
The challenge encourages teams to work together to increase their physical activity by tracking miles walked or converted from various forms of exercise. This year, seven of the nine teams surpassed the program goal of walking the approximate 500-mile distance across Tennessee.
“We had an incredible group of participants this year,” said Lacy Yeley, Family and Consumer Sciences Agent with UT Extension. “Everyone stayed committed and motivated, and their hard work really shows in these results. I’m so proud of all the teams.”
The competition among teams was close, with only 84 miles separating the top three finishers.
The Roads Scholars claimed first place with 1,876.47 miles, followed closely by Sole Survivors in second place with 1,840.73 miles. The A-Team Soldiers of the Walk earned third place, finishing with 1,792.36 miles.
Individual accomplishments were also celebrated. Katie Dill earned recognition as the Top Female Walker, logging an impressive 356.2 miles. Lance Shavchuk captured the title of Top Male Walker with an outstanding 590.79 miles.
Team captains will be contacted regarding certificates and prizes for their groups.
Yeley extended her appreciation to Carroll Bank and Trust for their continued sponsorship of the program. “Their support allows us to offer this challenge each year and encourage our community to stay active,” Yeley said.
UT Extension looks forward to continuing the Walk Across Tennessee tradition and inspiring even more Carroll Countians to get moving next year.
