SCAM ALERT: 'David' and the 'Fraudulent Charges' on your Bank Account
From the Mar 24, 2026 e-Edition
We got an interesting call this morning, March 24, 2026. "David" called from "Carroll Bank & Trust" to tell us that we had fraudulent charges on our account.
"David" called from Carroll Bank's Huntingdon phone number and then listed off some names of local businesses that were "fraudulent charges" on our account.
The only problem is, Carroll Bank doesn't have a "David" that works in that department and we don't have a business account with Carroll Bank.
"David" also called another local business in Greenfield impersonating Carroll Bank again, to verify funds for OUR business.
"David" is a terrible human being who spends his day terrorizing people.
❗️NEVER give out your information to someone who calls you. Always HANG UP and call the bank using a phone number you verified by phone book, their website, etc.
When in doubt, end the conversation, because a REAL business won't mind you verifying that they are legit, but scammers do.
Thank you to the wonderful people at Carroll Bank & Trust for helping us sort this out and for the great people at the Greenfield business for your help!
Carroll Bank & Trust provided this message for its customers:
‼️SCAM ALERT‼️
Scammers want your information and will do whatever it takes to get it-- Including pretending to be us.
Please remember: We will never ask for your account number, PIN, online banking username, or password to verify a transaction.
If you receive a call that seems suspicious, even if it looks like it's coming from CB&T, hang up immediately and call your local branch directly. You can find all branch phone numbers at www.carrollbank.com.
