December Unemployment Down in Area

NASHVILLE (January 30) — The December numbers for unemployment from the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development show that unemployment is down .1% for Carroll, Weakley and Henry counties.

Carroll County recorded an unemployment percentage of 4.0 percent in December, compared to 4.1 the month earlier and 3.7 percent one year earlier.

From a labor force of 11,844, there were 11,372 employed leaving 472 unemployed.

Henry County recorded an unemployment rate of 3.7 percent in December compared to 3.8 one month earlier and 3.5 one year earlier.

From a labor force of 13,850, there were 13,333 employed and 517 unemployed.

Weakley County recorded an unemployment rate of 3.8 percent in December, down from 3.9 one month earlier and 3.3 one year earlier.

From a labor force of 15,161, there were 14,590 employed and 571 unemployed.

The highest unemployment rate in Tennessee was recorded in Unicoi County with a rate of 5.9 percent, followed by Bledsoe, Houston, Lake, and McNairy counties at 5.2 percent.

The lowest unemployment rates were recorded in Moore County at 2.5 percent, followed by Sumner and Wilson counties at 2.9 percent.

Tennessee’s overall rate is 3.6 percent.
