The Dixie Hosts Designing Women Market
Reliefs of Carter, Holbrook Dedicated During Event
From the Mar 18, 2025 e-Edition
HUNTINGDON (March 14-15) — The Dixie Carter Performing and Academic Enrichment Center, along with The Colonial Tea Room and Madi & Co., hosted the Designing Women Curated Market on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon.
Over 40 female-owned businesses and vendors were represented at the three downtown locations.
The event began with ribbon-cuttings at the three locations and a dedication ceremony for a brand-new feature at Dixie PAC.
Recently installed were bronze reliefs of Dixie Carter and Hal Holbrook. Angela DeMaris, executive director of The Dixie, hosted the dedication. She thanked Mayor Chad Edwards and the town council for leadership on the project, town employees Jerry Manness, Dustin Wilbanks and Jason Janette and Dixie employees Frank Dodd and Stacy Sullins for the installation. She also thanked former council members and mayors, including Nina Smothers and the late Dale Kelley, a high school friend of Carter.
Jennifer Grisham of Columbia, Tennessee, was the artist. She was chosen by DeMaris because of her previous work on a bust of Mark Twain.
A plaque detailing the project will be added at a later date.
