At 9 a.m., there were 50,000 Easter eggs hidden in the grassy field of McKenzie City Park. Within two hours, all of the eggs were gone, and hundreds of kids were on the way home with Easter baskets full of assorted candies and toys.

The McKenzie Chamber of Commerce’s Easter Eggstravaganza returned Saturday, March 28, with a great turnout. Kids aged 0-10 were all smiles throughout the morning, visiting with the Easter Bunny, searching for candy-filled eggs and jumping in line for one of two bouncy castles. To top it all off, the Bow Ties and Tutus Mobile Petting Zoo was on site for animal-lovers, and volunteers set up a face-painting station for those who wanted a little makeover.

Four lucky children spotted the Golden Eggs, taking home goodie bags containing a $50 gift certificate from The Silly Goose Children’s Store and additional store items. Those Golden Egg winners were Storm White (0-2 age group), Takoda Roger (3-4 age group), Easton Flannery (5-7 age group) and Abbie Holiday (8-10 age group).

Initially called McKenzie’s Easter Egg Drop, the event was renamed “McKenzie’s Eggstravaganza” this year due to Chamber of Commerce Director Monica Heath’s decision to forego the usual helicopter display.

McKenzie’s Eggstravaganza was a free community event, aside from vendor purchases. This year’s event was sponsored by Allegion, the McKenzie Chamber of Commerce and Industrial Board and Centennial Bank.
