Election is Thursday

Early voting in Tennessee ended July 27 for the August 1 elections in Tennessee. The actual election day is August 1 at the assigned precincts.

Voters report to their respective local precincts on Thursday.

In Henry and Weakley counties, voters will select a new county mayor and each of those counties as both mayors resigned to accept different employment. John Penn Ridgeway, mayor of Henry County, was selected to serve as president of the Tennessee College of Applied Technology Henry/Carroll with campuses in both McKenzie and Paris and welding classes in Dresden.

Jake Bynum, mayor of Weakley County, was selected to serve as the chief of staff at the University of Tennessee at Martin. He started with UT-Martin on May 1.

Both unexpired terms as mayor will be filled during the August 1 election.

Carroll County
In Carroll County’s election, the ballot contains a few contested local school board races.

McKenzie Special School District Board of Education has four candidates seeking three at-large seats for a four-year term. Candidates are: Misty Aird, Chad Brown, Karen T. Fowler and Patrick Ross.

South Carroll (Clarksburg) School Board of Education has four candidates for three positions. They are Corey Bartholomew, Nick Cobb, Donna McDaniel-Cox, and Colton Lynn Moore.

West Carroll School Board has all incumbents running unopposed. They are William Robinson (Old Atwood); Jeremy Jackson (Old County); and Misty Mitchell (Old Trezevant District).

Huntingdon School Board has two incumbents running for two at-large seats. They are Dr. Lee Carter and Brittany Cobb Foster.

Hollow Rock-Bruceton School Board has no contested races. Brad Hurley is the lone candidate for 16th District-Bruceton; Tim Runions for 16th District Hollow Rock; Jim Holder for 17th District-Vale; and Nick Maness for 17th District Vale.

Carroll County Board of Education:
District 1 — Harold McLain, Jr.

District 2 — Larry R. Overman and Hal Eason.

District 3 — Kenna Bailey and James Randy Kelley.

County Commission District 4 — Unexpired Term.

Two judicial retention votes are also on the ballot. Voters will be considering to retain or replace two judges:

Dwight Tarwater on the Tennessee Supreme Court and Matthew J. Wilson on the Court of Criminal Appeals.

Henry County
Two candidates are seeking the unexpired term of Henry County Mayor. They are Randy Geiger-a Republican and Tim Wirgau, independent.
