From the Jun 11, 2024 e-Edition
KNOXVILLE (June 9) — With the win over Evansville on Sunday night in the super regional round, the UT Knoxville Vols baseball team notched a spot in the College World Series. The three-game series advanced the Vols to their first back-to-back appearance in Omaha.
Huntingdon’s Hunter Ensley, redshirt junior outfielder for the Vols, has had a great post-season. In Friday’s win, Ensley went 3-for-4 with a homer, a double and four RBIs. On May 26 in the SEC Championship against LSU, Ensley went 4-for-4 day with a two-out RBI single in the top of the seventh inning that was the game-winning hit.
Questions were asked about Ensley’s low batting average during the regular season. Vols Head Coach Tony Vitello, “He is in the lineup because he fights.” Going into May, Ensley was hitting .238. After the win on Sunday, his average increased to .291. He’s hitting close to .400 in his last 20 games for the Vols.
Currently, the Vols are the top-ranked team in college baseball and are scheduled to play Florida State later in the week in the opening round of the College World Series. It is a double-elimination tournament.
