Fillies Handle Henry County, Patriots Edge Mustangs

HUNTINGDON (January 13) — Huntingdon High School hosted Henry County Monday for a pair of basketball contests. The Fillies established an early lead and built on it for a 70-51 victory. The Mustangs fell behind early but rallied late, pulling within two points several times before the Patriots claimed a 65-61 win.
Huntingdon Fillies 70, Henry County Lady Patriots 51
The Fillies led 15-8 after the opening frame, led by Delaney Byars with nine points, including a three-pointer. Knox Bennett and Quinn Kelley each hit a three. Lady Patriot Olivia Kendall scored four points, Breely Pierpoint hit a three, and Annie Snow hit a free throw.
Huntingdon had a 19-12 advantage in the second quarter, led by Bennett with seven points, including a three. Kelley scored six on a pair of threes, Byars scored four points, and Sara Beth Smith had a pair. Lady Patriots Eve Eaton and Na’Kiyah Moore each scored five, Eaton with a three-pointer. Jenna Herrod had a pair. At the half, Huntingdon led 34-20.
The Fillies grew the lead with a 22-14 tilt in the third, led by Josey Stokes with eleven points, including a trio of threes. Smith scored eight, and Bennett had three points. Moore led Henry County with nine points. Pierpoint hit a three, and Kendall added a pair. Entering the final frame, the Fillies led 56-34.
The Lady Patriots cut the final deficit with a 17-14 edge in the fourth. Pierpoint and Eaton each scored five, each with a three-pointer. Na’Liyah Coats had three points, and Moore and Herrod each added a pair. Byars and Smith each scored four Huntingdon points, and Kelley and Grier Bartholomew each hit a three.
Huntingdon’s Delaney Byars led all scorers with 17 points, including a three-pointer. Sara Beth Smith scored 14 points. Knox Bennett had 13 with a pair of threes, and Quinn Kelley scored a dozen on four three-pointers.
Na’Kiyah Moore led Henry County with 16 points. Breely Pierpoint scored eleven with a trio of threes.
Patriots 65, Mustangs 61
Henry County jumped out to a 17-9 lead after the first frame, led by Luke Stephens with six points on a pair of three-pointers. Carson Curd scored five with a three, and Kendrick Moore, Aden Jackson and Tristan Grgic each had a pair. Mustang Kenton Smith scored six points, and Kelton Johnson hit a three.
The Patriots had a 15-11 edge in the second quarter, led by Jackson with four points. Curd, Stephens and Colby Stallings each hit a three-pointer, and Jamari Foster had a pair. Smith led Huntingdon with five points, including a three. E.J. Lewis scored four, and Bryson Whiteside had a pair. At the half, Henry County led 32-20.
The Mustangs had a 21-15 advantage in the third, led by Whiteside and Lewis with seven points each, Whiteside with a three-pointer. Smith scored four points, and Caleb Ezell hit a three. Patriot Drew Pack scored four with a three-pointer. Foster also hit a three, and Curd, Stephens, Stallings and Grgic each added a pair. Heading into the final frame, Henry County led 47-41.
Huntingdon’s fourth-quarter rally came up just short at 20-18, led by Smith with ten points, including a pair of threes. Lewis scored six, and Braylin Dearmon had four points. Curd led the Patriots with five points. Stephens scored four, and Foster hit a three. Moore, Stallings and Jackson each added a pair.
Mustang Kenton Smith led all scorers with 25 points, including a trio of three-pointers. E.J. Lewis scored 17 points.
Carson Curd and Luke Stephens led Henry County with 15 points each, Stephens with a trio of threes and Curd with a pair.
