Fillies, Mustangs Celebrate Successful Basketball Season

HUNTINGDON (April 27) — Huntingdon Fillies and Mustangs, along with the cheerleaders celebrated the 2023-24 basketball season during a banquet at First Baptist Church on Saturday, April 27.

The Fillies advanced to the state championship series slowing to Gibson County in Class 2A competition.

The team was 28-6 overall and the fourth team in school history to reach 28 wins in a season. They claimed the district, region, sectional titles.

The five starters all earned All-District honors. All District included Annabelle Singleton, Quinn Kelley, Delaney Byars and Josey Stokes. Singleton was district defensive MVP. Lillie Kee was district and region MVP. Kee scored 1,809 points in her high school career.

Coach David Wilkins presented awards to Delaney Byars — Most Versatile, Josey Stokes — Most Improved, Kelby Crossno — Most Hustle and Heart, Quinn Kelley — Most Three-Pointers; Sara Beth Smith — Impact Award, Lillie Kee — Best Teammate, Annabelle Singleton — Most Assists and Career Assists, Most Steals and Most Career Steals.

The Mustangs were honored by Coach Porsche McClerking. The five seniors were honored as co-MVPs: Tycen Willis, Rayshaun Bailey, Landon Bryant, Graham Bartholomew and Kaleb Pearson.

The Rookie Award went to Kenton Smith, Sixth Man Award was Bryson Whiteside; Newcomer Award was Braylin Dearmon; Playmaker Award was Caleb Ezell; Hustle Award was Landon Bryant; Coaches Award was Graham Bartholomew, Most Improved was Rayshaun Bailey; Captain’s Award and Defensive Player was Tycen Willis.

Each of the cheerleaders were honored with certificates and praise for their service during the long season for both teams. Vicki Crossno thanked the cheerleaders for their dedicated service to the school and the teams.
