Fillies Win Big Over Peabody, Mustangs Fall
From the Dec 10, 2024 e-EditionHUNTINGDON (December 5) — Huntingdon High School hosted Peabody Thursday for a pair of basketball contests. The Fillies rode a dominant first half to a 66-36 victory. The Mustangs led by six at the half, but the Golden Tide stormed back to claim an 81-60 win.
Huntingdon Fillies 66, Peabody Lady Tide 36
The Fillies stormed out to a 19-5 lead after the first frame, led by Delaney Byars with eleven points, including a three-pointer. Quinn Kelley scored six on a pair of threes, and Sara Beth Smith had a pair. Peabody’s Nyasia Luten and A’Nyah Ross each had a pair, and Za’Kaysia Skinner hit a free throw.
Huntingdon pulled away with a 26-7 advantage in the second quarter, led by Byars with eight points. Kelley, Grier Bartholomew and Knox Bennett each scored six on three-pointers. Luten had six points for the Lady Tide, and Ya’Kira Linsley hit a free throw. At the half, the Fillies led 45-12.
Peabody trimmed the deficit with a 17-13 advantage in the third, led by Luten with seven points. Paislee Walls scored five with a three. Emyiah Agnew hit a three-pointer, and Skinner added a pair. Smith led Huntingdon with eight points. Byars and Emalynn Maness each had a pair, and Bennett hit a freebie. Entering the final frame, the Fillies led 59-29.
The fourth quarter was a 7-7 wash. Huntingdon’s Camdyn Sellers hit a three-pointer, and Maness and Ellie Wilson each had a pair. Luten scored five for Peabody, and Agnew added a pair.
Huntingdon’s Delaney Byars led all scorers with 21 points, including a three-pointer. Quinn Kelley scored a dozen on four threes.
Nyasia Luten led the Lady Tide with 20 points.
Golden Tide 81, Mustangs 60
Huntingdon led 20-15 after the first frame, led by Kenton Smith with seven points. Caleb Ezell scored five, including a three-pointer. EJ Lewis and Braylin Dearmon each had four points. Emmanuel Cannon led Peabody with seven points, including a three. Jamarcus Haynes scored six, and Ryder Patterson had a pair.
The Mustangs had a 13-12 edge in the second quarter, led by Smith with nine points, including a pair of threes. Ezell and Kelton Johnson each had a pair. Haynes scored six for the Golden Tide, and Cannon hit a three. Jamelvin Brooks had a pair, and Patterson hit a free throw. At the half, the Mustangs led 33-27.
Peabody rallied 23-15 to take the lead in the third, led by Patterson with a dozen. Brooks scored four, and Cannon hit a three-pointer. Haynes and Thomas Luten each had a pair. Lewis scored nine for Huntingdon on a trio of threes. Ezell and Bryson Whiteside each hit a three-pointer. Heading into the final frame, Peabody led 50-48.
The Golden Tide pulled away with a 31-12 advantage in the fourth, led by Patterson and Haynes with ten points each. Cannon scored seven with a three. Brooks and Zay Jelks each had a pair. Lewis scored five for the Mustangs with a three-pointer. Ezell scored four, and Smith hit a three.
Peabody’ Jamarcus Haynes led all scorers with 24 points. Ryder Patterson scored 23, and Emmanuel Cannon had 20 points, including four three-pointers.
EJ Lewis led Huntingdon with 18 points, including four three-pointers. Kenton Smith scored 16 with a trio of threes.
