TSSAA Football Playoffs Begin Friday
From the Nov 5, 2024 e-EditionIt’s high school football playoff time in Tennessee, and several area teams are looking for deep runs and a trip to Chattanooga in early December. The journey begins Friday at 7 p.m. across the state.
In Class 1A, Region 6 champion McKenzie (10-0) enters the bracket as the only undefeated team. The Rebels host Wayne County (6-4, fourth in Region 5). West Carroll (5-5, fourth in Region 6) travels to face Region 5 champion Richland (7-3).
With a win Friday, McKenzie would host the winner of Houston County (7-3) at Eagleville (7-3) next week.
With a win, West Carroll would travel to face the winner of Huntland (7-3) at McEwen (7-3).
Other Class 1A first-round matchups in West Tennessee include Middleton (4-6) at Union City (8-2), Halls (8-2) at Memphis Middle College (8-2), Memphis Westwood (5-5) at South Fulton (8-2) and Lake County (5-5) at MASE (8-1).
In Class 2A, Region 6 runner-up Huntingdon (8-2) hosts Loretto (6-4, third in Region 5). Region 6 champion Milan hosts Lewis County (6-4, fourth in Region 5).
With a win Friday, Huntingdon would either travel to Region 5 champion East Hickman (8-2) or host Riverside (6-4, fourth in Region 6).
With a win, Milan would host the winner of JCM (7-2, third in Region 6) at Region 5 runner-up Summertown (8-2).
Other Class 2A first-round matchups in West Tennessee include Bluff City (2-4) at Memphis Business (6-2), Trezevant (1-7) at Mitchell (6-3) and KIPP Memphis Collegiate (2-6) at Hillcrest (3-7). Fairley (9-0) has a first-round bye.
In Class 3A, Region 7 champion Westview (10-0) enters the bracket as the only undefeated team. The Chargers host Wooddale (3-7, fourth in Region 8).
With a win Friday, Westview would host the winner of Dyersburg (6-3, third in Region 7) at Region 8 runner-up Bolton (8-2).
Other Class 3A first-round matchups in West Tennessee include Memphis East (4-6, third in Region 8) at Region 7 runner-up Covington (9-1) and Bolivar Central (5-4, fourth in Region 7) at Region 8 champion Sheffield (8-1).
