McKENZIE (May 25) — Kalynn Howard enters her first season as Assistant Coach for the Bethel University Women’s basketball program in 2026-27. Howard spent the previous five years as both a player and graduate assistant for the Lady Wildcats. Head Coach Chris Nelson broke the exciting news Monday afternoon.
Howard brings experience in player development, scouting, film breakdowns and practice planning. During her time as a graduate assistant, she assisted with opponent analysis, recruiting support, skill development and daily team operations while helping continue Bethel’s winning culture.
As a player, Howard appeared in 112 career games and helped lead the Lady Wildcats to a historic NAIA Fab Four appearance during the 2024-25 season. A multi-year team captain and leadership award recipient, she was named Bethel Female Athlete of the Year for the 2024-25 academic year and was recognized for her leadership, basketball IQ and ability to connect with teammates.
Howard graduated as Salutatorian from Covington High School , where her basketball jersey was later retired in recognition of her accomplishments and impact on the program. She continued her academic and athletic career at Bethel, earning her Bachelor of Science in Sports Management with a minor in Coaching in 2024 and completing her MBA in 2026, graduating magna cum laude.
“We are incredibly proud and thankful to still have Kalynn with our program,” said Coach Nelson. “Over the last five years, she has been instrumental to the success and culture of our program through her leadership, basketball IQ and the respect she has earned from everyone around her. Sometimes the transition from player to coach can be difficult, but Kal made it look easy. She has a tremendous feel for the game, connects naturally with our players and understands exactly what it takes to compete and succeed at Bethel. We’re excited to see the impact she will continue to make in this new role as assistant coach.”
