Fort Campbell Selected For Nuclear Microreactor
From the Sep 1, 2026 e-EditionFORT CAMPBELL — The U.S. Army announced that Fort Campbell has been selected to host one of the first next-generation microreactors under the Janus Program, according to the U.S. Army.
Following a competitive national evaluation, Fort Campbell has been aligned with BWX Technologies, Inc. (BWXT) to deploy their safe, compact, and resilient advanced reactor technology to power our critical mission-essential facilities on post.
This system (sitting on less than 5 acres) will operate independently from the commercial grid, ensuring the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) remains ready to deploy and protect our nation—even during commercial power outages or natural disasters.
Safety First: The reactor uses meltdown-resistant TRISO fuel and is designed with passive, automatic safety systems. It will be operated by certified civilian specialists under the regulatory oversight of the Army Reactor Regulatory Office.
