District 14A Girls Basketball Tournament

Gleason Falls to Greenfield in Consolation Game

McKENZIE (February 25) — The District 14A Girls Basketball Tournament concluded Tuesday at Bethel University with consolation and championship games. The Greenfield Lady Yellowjackets claimed third with a 41-33 win over Gleason in the consolation game. Union City topped Dresden 53-48 to claim the championship.

Following the games, district awards were presented.

The District 14A All-District Team included Gleason’s Skylar Arnold and Hylan Leach; Greenfield’s AnnaGrace Abernathy, Ella Porter, Jayleigh Bowers and Rayanna Fischer; Dresden’s Ellie Poole, Kaylee Jarred, Haylee Jarred and Allie Spaulding; Lake County’s Laken Chism and Caren Johnson; and Union City’s Uriah Davis, Debrionna Jones and Player of the Year Sh’Nyla Moss. Coach of the Year was Dresden’s Jonathan West.

The All-Defensive team included Greenfield’s Rayanna Fischer and Brenley Little; Dresden’s Haylee Jarred; and Union City’s Uriah Davis and Defensive Player of the Year Sh’Nyla Moss.

The All-Tournament team included Gleason’s Skylar Arnold; Greenfield’s Ella Porter; Dresden’s Allie Spaulding and Haylee Jarred; and Union City’s Blair McKinnie, Debrionna Jones and MVP Sh’Nyla Moss.

The All-Academic team included Gleason’s Addy Black; Dresden’s Haylee Jarred, Kaylee Jarred, Mollie Oliver, Ellie Poole and Allie Spaulding; Greenfield’s AnnaGrace Abernathy, Jayleigh Bowers, Lily Boyd and Brenley Little; South Fulton’s Abbi Bivens, Madeline Guthrie, Reagan Johnson, Chloe Liliker and Jenefer Wallace; Lake County’s Caren Johnson; and Union City’s Debrionna Jones and Kennedi Robinson.

Consolation:
Greenfield Lady Yellowjackets 41, Gleason Lady Bulldogs 33

The first frame was an 8-8 wash, then the Lady Yellowjackets took the lead 19-16 at the half. After adding two points to the advantage in the third, Greenfield clinched the win with a 9-6 edge in the fourth.

Lady Bulldog Skylar Arnold led all scorers with 16 points. Ahmyre Allen scored eight, Brinley Lehmkuhl had five, and Kadence Witherspoon scored four points.

Ella Porter led Greenfield with 12 points. Brenley Little scored eleven with a pair of three-pointers. Rayanna Fischer had seven with a three. Jolie Lunsford scored four, and Jayleigh Bowers had three points. Emma Capps and AnnaGrace Abernathy each had a pair.

Championship:
Union City Lady Tornadoes 53, Dresden Lady Lions 48

The Lady Lions had an 8-7 edge after the opening frame, pushed to 18-15 at the half. Union City stormed ahead 38-33 after three quarters, then sealed the win in an even 15-15 fourth.

Lady Tornado Sh’Nyla Moss led all scorers with 15 points, including a pair of three-pointers. Kennedi Robinson scored nine. Blair McKinnie and Uriah Davis each scored six, each with a three. Debrionna Jones had four points, and Ali McMillan scored three.

Haylee Jarred led Dresden with 18 points, including a three. Allie Spaulding scored ten with a pair of threes. Kaylee Jarrod had seven with a three. Jacie West scored six on a pair of threes, and Mollie Oliver also had six points. Elizabeth Jarred hit a free throw.
