GLEASON (May16) — Gleason High School held its commencement ceremony on Friday, May 16 in the school’s gymnasium.
Family and friends gathered to celebrate the students of the fewest number of graduates in decades.
The gathering of students and guests was welcomed by Owen Taylor, president of the Class of 2025.
GHS Principal Lee Lawrence also welcomed the gathering as he made announcements for the evening’s event.
A video was played that displayed the senior portrait, a casual photo, and a baby photo of each of the graduates.
Taylor then returned to the lectern to give the Salutatory Address followed by Elaine Covington, who gave the Valedictory Address.
Mr. Lawrence announced each graduate’s name, the award he or she received, and future plans.
During the diploma presentation, each student’s name was announced as he or she approached the elevated platform to receive a diploma presented by Lawrence, Assistant Principal Monica Rollins, and Mr. Beau Atkins, a school board member.
Kane Butler offered the benediction.
Students changed their tassels from right to left as an outward symbol of completion of a course of study and a designation of now being an alumnus of the school. Each of the students had a canister of confetti to discharge prior to march out of the gymnasium to form a receiving line at the front of the school.
Class members are: Jaydon Eugene Ayers, Olivia Grace Bell, Addyson Claire Black, Samuel William Bridgeman, Austin Kane Butler, Elaine Alexandra Covington, Bruce Nathan Dean, Trevor Allen Flatt, Landon Christian Goad, Isabella Reann Hickman, Piersen Warren Hilby, Dawson Nathaniel Luhellier, Jace Owen Taylor, Kami Renee Thomas, Dalton Drake Wade, and Savannah May White.
