Gleason Sweeps Lake County

GLEASON (January 24) — Gleason High School hosted Lake County Friday for a pair of district basketball contests. The Lady Bulldogs were in control throughout for a 43-29 win, while the Bulldogs battled through momentum shifts to come out on top, 66-58.

Gleason Lady Bulldogs 43, Lake County Lady Falcons 29
The Lady Bulldogs led 11-7 after the opening frame, led by Brinley Lehmkuhl with five points, including a three-pointer. Hylan Leach also hit a three, Ahmyre Allen had a pair, and Kadence Witherspoon hit a free throw. Laken Chism scored all seven Lady Falcon points.

Gleason had an 8-5 advantage in the second quarter, with Skylar Arnold scoring all eight points. Lake County’s Mariah Valentine hit a three, and Caren Johnson had a pair. At the half, Gleason led 19-12.

The Lady Bulldogs enjoyed an 11-5 tilt in the third, led by Lehmkuhl with five points, including a three. Leach and Allen each hit a three-pointer. Lady Falcon Jordyn Burpo hit a three, and Chism and Kaitlin Jones each hit a free throw. Entering the final frame, the Lady Bulldogs led 30-17.

Gleason sealed the win with a 13-12 edge in the fourth, led by Leach with five points, including a three. Arnold scored four, and Lehmkuhl and Allen each added a pair. Chism led Lake County with seven, including a three. Valentine scored three points, and Johnson added a pair.

Lady Falcon Laken Chism led all scorers with 15 points, including a three.

Brinley Lehmkuhl and Skyler Arnold led Gleason with 12 points each, Lehmkuhl with a pair of three-pointers. Hylan Leach scored eleven with a trio of threes.

Bulldogs 66, Falcons 58
Lake County had a 15-11 lead after the first frame, led by Aikee Ward with seven points, including a three. Xander Hertel scored five with a three, and Ka’Devon Gross also hit a three. Bulldog Drake Lehmkuhl scored six with a three, and Kade Sawyers had five points with a three.

Gleason had a 15-5 advantage in the second quarter, led by Lehmkuhl and Parker Morgan with six points each. Brody Sanders had a pair, and Sawyers hit a free throw. Jataveion Ricks scored four Falcon points, and Hertel hit a freebie. At the half, Gleason led 26-20.

The third quarter was a 22-22 wash. Sawyers led Gleason with eleven points, including a three. Lehmkuhl scored nine on a trio of three-pointers, and Sanders added a pair. Ricks led Lake County with 13 points. Ward scored five with a three, and Hertel and Camden Chamberlain each had a pair. Heading into the final frame, the Bulldogs led 48-42.

Gleason clinched the victory with an 18-16 edge in the fourth, led by Sawyers with a dozen, including a pair of threes. Lehmkuhl scored three points, Sanders added a pair, and Ashton Morgan hit a free throw. Chamberlain led the Falcons with seven, including a three. Ricks scored four points. Hertel hit a three, and Gross added a pair.

Bulldog Kade Sawyers led all scorers with 29 points, including four three-pointers. Drake Lehmkuhl scored 24, also with four threes.

Jataveion Ricks led Lake County with 21 points. Aikee Ward had 12 with a pair of threes, and Xander Hertel scored eleven, also with a pair of threes.
