Gleason Sweeps McKenzie

GLEASON (November 6) — Gleason Junior High hosted McKenzie Middle School Thursday for a pair of basketball contests. The Lady Bulldogs built a solid lead in the first half and held on for a 37-29 win. The Bulldogs pulled away early for a 54-25 victory.
Gleason Lady Bulldogs 37, McKenzie Lady Rebels 29
Gleason had a 12-8 lead after the opening frame, led by Gabi Pinkston with five points, including a three-pointer. Kinley Baumgartel scored four, and Addi Flippin had three points. Lady Rebels Willow Stenberg, Abby Carroll, Kristy Towne and Macy Brooks each had a pair.
The Lady Bulldogs pulled away with a 14-4 advantage in the second quarter, led by Pinkston with seven points, including another three. Parker Vaughn scored four, Baumgartel added a pair, and Adrianna Morefield hit a free throw. Carroll scored all four McKenzie points. At the half, Gleason led 26-12.
The Lady Rebels had a 7-6 edge in the third, led by Carroll with five points. Towne added a pair. Pinkston led Gleason with five points, again with a three. Baumgartel hit a freebie. Entering the final frame, the Lady Bulldogs led 32-19.
McKenzie doubled up Gleason 10-5 in the fourth for a closer final, led by Towne with six points. Carroll scored three, and Stenberg hit a free throw. Flippin hit a three for the Lady Bulldogs, and Vaughn added a pair.
Gleason’s Gabi Pinkston led all scorers with 17 points, including a trio of three-pointers. Kinley Baumgartel scored seven. Addi Flippin and Parker Vaughn each scored six, Flippin with a three.
Abby Carroll led the Lady Rebels with 14 points. Kristy Towne scored ten.
Bulldogs 54, Rebels 25
Gleason jumped out to a 15-4 lead after the first frame, led by Preston Lynch with six points on a pair of threes. Avery Black scored five, also with a three-pointer, and Grant Pinkston had four points. Rebels Navadius Owens and Fisher Allen each had a pair.
The Bulldogs had an 11-9 edge in the second quarter, led by Lawson Tucker with six points. Black hit another three, and Pinkston added a pair. Rebel Lane Brown scored five with a three-pointer, and Allen had four points. At the half, Gleason led 26-13.
Gleason enjoyed a 17-7 advantage in the third, led by Tucker with eight points. Pinkston scored four, Black hit another three, and Lynch added a pair. Brown scored four for McKenzie, Owens added a pair, and Allen hit a free throw. Heading into the final frame, Gleason led 43-20.
The Bulldogs closed out the win with an 11-5 tilt in the fourth, led by Gus Lindsey with five points, including a three. Hunter Ashby also hit a three-pointer. Pinkston added a pair, and Tucker hit a freebie. Brown and Lawson Ownby each had a pair for the Rebels, and Dierks Ghyers hit a free throw.
Bulldog Lawson Tucker led all scorers with 15 points. Grant Pinkston scored a dozen, and Avery Black had eleven points with a trio of threes.
Lane Brown led McKenzie with eleven points, including a three-pointer. Fisher Allen scored seven.
