McKENZIE (October 20) — Sunday marked a big milestone in one McKenzie family’s journey to home ownership as Habitat for Humanity of Carroll County held a groundbreaking ceremony for its 23rd home.

Judith Eubanks, her daughter, Julee, and her father, Landon, will soon call 103 May Street home.

Habitat for Humanity of Carroll County board President Johnathon Jackson welcomed those gathered, including McKenzie Mayor Ryan Griffin and Huntingdon Mayor Nina Smothers.

Keith Priestley, elder at McKenzie Church of Christ, delivered a prayer, and Habitat office manager Kassie Taylor introduced the family.

Taylor presented the family with a framed copy of the original draft blueprint for the home, and Eubanks and Jackson broke ground. Eubanks expressed her gratitude for the opportunity, and Jackson gave a closing prayer.

Blitz Day, the big jumpstart for the project, is set for Saturday, November 9. Working dates continue with November 23, December 7,14 and 21 and January 11 and 18.

Volunteers are needed for each of these days. No skills are required, but knowledge in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, etc. are helpful.
