Happy Book Stack McKenzie Celebrates First Anniversary
From the Jun 16, 2026 e-Edition
McKENZIE (June 9) — The Happy Book Stack McKenzie marked its one-year anniversary Tuesday evening with a customer appreciation event, offering patrons free pizza and cake.
Owner David Jacobs told The Banner, "I've really enjoyed getting to know many people, look forward to getting to know even more over these next few years to come. I feel like I've been well-received by the community, and I really appreciate that. It's tough having a small business in many ways. So, the community is really what makes it possible.
"The year has definitely flown by. We've gotten to have some awesome events in this space. Some worship nights, some music nights, lots of different types of crafting, I want to keep on expanding on that and being an asset to the community.
"It's been fun having a bookstore, seeing people local and from out of town come in. We've seen some people stock their classrooms for school. I see people come in who read over a hundred books a year. They're in monthly restocking their 'to be read' lists. So shoutout to our loyal customers. You guys make this stuff possible."
Jacobs teased some new things on the horizon but wouldn't say much. "We've got some fun things down the pipeline. Some fun expansions on what we're already doing."
He added, "More than anything, thank you to everyone, and we look forward to many more years to come."
Store Manager Stephanie McClerkin said, "The first year has been great. We've already got lots of loyals. We see them everyday. Sometimes, we've got one we'll see twice a day — Mr. Larry. He'll always come twice a day when we have brisket chili, and we've got his frapp order memorized. So we've got a good base of consistent customers, and we've still got new people coming in.
"It's fun to watch it grow, see people bring new people in, get to learn new faces and hopefully give them a good experience."
