McKENZIE (September 20) - Northwest Tennessee Head Start/Early Head Start hosted a Pajama Parade Friday for autism awareness.

Parents were invited to join the kids and staff on the playground for a multitude of activities designed to provide sensory experiences which, especially for children with autism, help stimulate the brain and aid in processing new sensory information and developing language skills.

After a short parade around the playground, kids played with beads, bubbles, water, slime and other various textures, read books and listened to music in their favorite pajamas.

Parents were provided with helpful information about autism, including early signs and symptoms and the importance of community awareness and acceptance.

The event was inspired by Autism Tennessee's annual Pajama Walk and 5K, held in Nashville the following day.
