Heart Health Luncheon Held at Baptist-Carroll County

HUNTINGDON (February 21) — February is Heart Month. It is a time to raise awareness about heart disease, the leading cause of death in the world. During Heart Month, organizations and individuals focus on promoting heart health by providing information, resources, and events to encourage healthy lifestyle choices.
Baptist Memorial Hospital- Carroll County offers year-around heart-healthy programs, information, and prevention for a strong cardiovascular system.
On Friday, February 21, Cindy Cole, RN and Amber Bradley, RN were the featured speakers during a Heart Healthy Luncheon on the campus of the hospital. A heart-healthy lunch was provided to attendees at the free educational event.
The program included:
• Understanding your risk factors (family history, cholesterol, blood pressure).
• The importance of routine heart screenings and what tests to consider.
• How to recognize early warning signs of a heart attack or stroke.
• Heart-healthy lifestyle tips, including diet, exercise and stress management.
• New medical advancements.
Diet, exercise, and routine health examples can help prevent many heart problems.
A proper diet includes fruits and vegetables, grains, calcium-rich foods, protein - recommended chicken and seafood, salt-free or reduced items, and calorie-free sweeteners.
Baptist has a cardiac rehab team that provides comprehensive care in case of heart disease or a heart event.
The service includes structured and monitored programming of diet, lifestyle, exercise, and health monitoring.
Bradley also demonstrated manual CPR and the use of an AED - automated external defibrillator.
Regarding the event, Sarah Pitcher, Manager of Marketing said, “We were so happy to invite our community to Baptist Carroll County for the Lunch and Learn event. Our goal is to provide valuable education on heart health, offering practical tips for preventing cardiovascular disease through lifestyle choices and early detection.
