Henry County Man Dies from Accidental Gunshot
From the Dec 7, 2021 e-EditionOn December 5, 2021 at approx. 6:34 p.m. a 911 call was received reporting an injured person on the road in the area of 10030 Hwy 79N. It was at first believed the person had been hit by a vehicle.
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Tennessee Highway Patrol and Henry County Emergency Medical Services responded.
An initial investigation found the person identified as Johnny Leon Diven, 51, of Buchanan was deceased laying behind his vehicle which was parked on the side of Highway 79N. Diven was found to have a gunshot wound.
An investigation was conducted by the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division with the assistance of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. All evidence, including surveillance footage, from a nearby business, indicates Diven died from an accidental gunshot.
