Kemmie Warren joins the Huntingdon Historical Society Wednesday, May 20, in the conference room of Huntingdon City Hall. Her historical presentation on the Long Rock United Methodist Church begins at 9 a.m.

The Long Rock United Methodist Church, located off Highway 77 on Long Rock Church Road in Huntingdon, was built in 1886 and is still in service today. The church is on the Historical Register.

The bricks used to build the church were fired on site of the church property. The leftover bricks were used to build the one-room school house that has been restored and is on the church property as well.

As with other churches that were built when the counties and cities were young, Long Rock United Methodist Church was used for more than holding church services. The church was also used for meetings and for singing conventions. The Presson family, a gospel singing group, attended the church in the 1920s.

Born in 1933, Kemmie Warren is a lifelong resident of Carroll County, still living on the farm that her parents owned. Her grandparents were members of the Long Rock United Methodist Church, of which she has been a member since 1951.

Hear Warren's presentation May 20 at Huntingdon City Hall, located at 19810 East Main Street, Huntingdon.
