Huntingdon Middle School Fillies Win State Championship

MURFREESBORO (February 1) — The Huntingdon Middle School Fillies completed a trifecta for Huntingdon Middle School Saturday at Middle Tennessee Christian School as they defeated Rickman 72-39 to win their first-ever state championship.
The Fillies win follows the HMS Mustangs winning the state championship the last two years, giving HMS wins in the state championship for three consecutive years.
The Fillies completed a season that saw them win their last 17 games in a row, including three in a row at the state tournament and finished the season with a 22-1 record. It was a remarkable two-year run for the Fillies as last season they finished 24-1 with the loss coming in the state tournament.
The Fillies defeated the Lady Bulldogs of Rickman with an 11-0 run to start the first quarter, a 9-0 run to start the third quarter, and an 8-0 run to start the fourth. The Fillies outscored the Lady Bulldogs 16-2 in the final frame.
Scoring for HMS were Wylie Kee 21, Krystin Moore 14, Kaylee Eatmon 11, Lakeitha Cason 9, Millie Luther 8, Madeline Anderson 5, Courtlyn Brewer 2 and Anderson Pearson 2.
The Fillies started the two-week tournament with a 59-19 win over Allons as Kee scored 16, Brewer 9, Cason 6, Moore 5, Emma Smith 5, Anderson 5, Pearson 5, Luther 4, June Dillahunty 3 and Eatmon 1.
In the semi-finals the Fillies defeated Merrol Hyde 64-32 to advance to the championship game. They were led in scoring by Kee with 14, Luther 14, Moore 10, Anderson 8, Brewer 6, Pearson 4, Eatmon 2 and Vivian Singleton 2.
