NASHVILLE (December 6) — Leighann Horne, Supervisor of Education for McKenzie Special School District, was honored as the West Grand Division Supervisor of the Year for the year 2024-25 school year.

She received the honor on December 6 during a ceremony hosted by the Tennessee Department of Education to honor the principals and supervisors of the year.

“I am thrilled to honor these remarkable school leaders with the 2024-25 Principal and Supervisor of the Year awards,” said Commissioner Lizzette Reynolds. “These individuals have played key roles in the success of their teachers and students, and I am proud to have them representing Tennessee.”

Horne was originally one of nine finalists and then chosen as the supervisor for the west division.

Horne obtained her Bachelor of Science in Special Education and a minor in Elementary Education from the University of Tennessee at Martin. She continued her education with masters degrees in Special Education and School Leadership and Administration.

Her career started in Special Education in Gibson County Schools, where she taught for 10 years. She then served as the Special Education Coordinator in Henry County before serving as the supervisor at McKenzie for the last seven years.

In her role at McKenzie, she is the instructional supervisor for pre-kindergarten through sixth grade and the director of Special Education.

In an interview earlier this year, Horne said, “I absolutely love working here. We have a small district and work very closely together; it just feels like family. We have some very dedicated teachers in our district, and we are truly here to serve our students, and we put them first.”

“My passions include Special Education, classroom management and behavior, early literacy, and of course, my family.

She participated in a formal interview process with the Tennessee Department of Education.

Earlier, Horne said, “I’m honored to spotlight not only Special Education but also our district because I believe we have an amazing district, and we’re moving forward and growing. We have great leaders, teachers, and staff members that come together every day for the betterment of our students, and I am blessed to be a part of this team - this family.”
